| It has been announced that swine flu vaccines will be made available in the UKnext week to hospitals, with GP's gaining access to the vaccine the following week. More than 11 million people will initially receive the jab starting with the most vulnerable including NHS staff. |

Swine Flu Cases Doubling Every Fortnight- Friday 16 October, 2009

| Despite a slight slow down in the spread of swine flu, cases in the UK are still doubling every fortnight, with 27,000 swine flu cases being confirmed last week. Also last week, the number of people in hospital rose from 290 to 364 of which an alarming 74 are in intensive care, up a staggering number from 47 the week before. The current UK death toll from swine flu stands at 106, the latest two victims having contracted swine flu whilst pregnant. |

UK Death Toll Rises- Wednesday 14 October, 2009

| In Scotland alone the number of swine-flu related deaths has risen by four in two days. A 48 year old man, 81 year old woman, a 42 year old man and a 75 year old man all died in the last few days, bringing the total number of deaths in the UK to 94. |

Potential Cost Of Swine Flu To NHS Being Counted- Monday 05 October, 2009

| Health chiefs are estimating that the expected pandemic of Swine Flu could cost the NHS in the Lincolnshire area alone between £2m and £7m depending on the severity. With a population of around 100,000, projections have been made of 11,000 swine flu cases in one week with 440 people requiring hospitalisation. The director of public health, Tony Hill said: "Pandemic influenza will be a widespread, rising tide phenomenon threatening to overwhelm health and social care services throughout the UK, and necessitating changes to the scope and delivery of health and social care." |

Chief Medical Officer Fears Swine Flu "Explosion"- Sunday 04 October, 2009

| The Chief Medical Officer, Sir Liam Donaldson has confirmed that the steady rise in swine flu symptoms is continuing to rise. Last week in England, there were 14,000 new cases (9000 the previous week) and in Scotland, 13,800 (7000 the previous week). Sir Donaldson said "There is a steady rate of increase, but there is no sign of the explosive surge you can see in a pandemic." however he also added "There is still time for that to happen.",
Meanwhile the number of hospitalised swine flu victims continues to rise - in England alone, currently 286 patients, up from 218 last week, of which 36 are in intensive care. |

Scotland Gears Up For A Winter Of Swine Flu- Sunday 04 October, 2009

| Wheels are now in motion to prepare for a winter of swine flu in Scotland. Measures being taken include contacting ex-nurses and midwives whose registrations have lapsed in the last 4 years and inviting them to re-register (with their fees paid for them) as well as an investment of £1.4m being spent on an additional 40 adult and 15 paediatric ventilators. |

Swine Flu Vaccine Trialled On Children- Wednesday 30 September, 2009

| A clinical trial of several swine flu vaccines is set to commence in the next week with the aim of comparing which vaccines work best, fastest and with least side effects. The trial will involve 1000 children aged between 6mths and 12 years from Oxford, Bristol, Southampton, Exeter & London. More than 11 million "high risk" patients are expected to be offered the swine flu vaccine in approx 1 months time. |

Swine Flu Patient In Coma- Wednesday 30 September, 2009

| Lindy Paterson, 26 from Keltybridge in Fife is still in a medically induced coma in after becoming seriously ill with Swine Flu in Ibiza. The swine flu virus has now left her body, but she is still unable to breath without the help of a ventilator after contracting pneumonia. Lindy's condition is described by Spanish medical staff as being "serious but stable" |

| Despite the sudden upsurge in swine flu cases in the UK, it seems as though we are only one step closer to being able to get hold of the swine flu jab. Although the swine flu vaccine has been approved for use in the UK by the European drug regulator, and the Chairman of the Royal College Of GPs has gone on record as saying the the swine flu vaccine is "safe and should be given to at-risk groups first", it still needs to be given final approval by the European Commission before anyone gets their hands on it. |

| According to BBC News, there are plans to double the number of intensive care beds in the UK should the swine flu pandemic reach serious enough levels. This news comes in the week that cases of swine flu in the UK have nearly doubled, marking the return of the swine flu virus. |
